Fallout Musings

So, remember the myth of old Festus running around the Mojave wasteland refilling the Sunset Sarsaparilla machines (thus explaining why they still have bottles of pop 200 years after WW3)?

In my headcanon there’s a First Aid fairy who runs around the wasteland refilling first aid kits if they are left in their original pre-war place. Because really… First aid equipment is a top priority supply in the wasteland, and yet every bathroom in the whole wasteland still has a few stimpacks and other medical necessities in its first aid box.

Maybe they used to just contain so many stimpacks it was disgusting – like 200, and you’re fishing the dregs out.  In general Fallout feels more like 5 years after the apocalypse then 200.

One thing that would make the world of Fallout seem to make more sense in that regard is if Vault-Tec had stashed emergency supplies in all sorts of weird places before the bombs fell. As a Vault Dweller, your Pip-Boy could lead you to places where the caches were hidden, so you could see if there was still anything left in them. That would allow you take the sorts of risks one takes in a game like Fallout, without so openly challenging suspension of disbelief.

I can’t imagine I’d have much interest in Fallout if it made sense.

I want to know what the hell was wrong with the world pre-war that made everyone have a huge medkit box mounted on their bathroom wall?

+Jason Lancaster What the post-nuke rubes of the Fallout world call “stims” was actually a popular brand of self-administered chemical contraceptive, which, after exposure to centuries of radiation, has gained entirely unintended (almost magical) healing properties. Amusingly, the same properties can be found in the fruit-flavored condoms and temporary tattoos vended from the same boxes.

+Jason Lancaster Nothing really, most houses have first aid kits. It’s just easier for the player if they’re attached to the wall and all look the same.

Allen’s Hummingbird with yellow pollen on its bill, Hovering over Red Yucca bloom. The low angle of this shot allows you to experience the world through hummingbird senses while viewing it’s acrobatic maneuverability and amazing colors. This photo is also one of my favorites Hummingbird Capture in recent years.

Endless Fields of the Eastern Shore (Prince Edward Island)
Check how photo looked straight from the camera, how it was taken and processed
http://www.phototraces.com/deconstructing-photo/endless-fields-of-the-eastern-shore-prince-edward-island/Ater visiting Prince Edward Island on many occasions in the last 10 years It was the first time I got to drive along the Eastern Shote of the island.

It looked different and unique compared to other parts of PEI. It has a high shore with view on Nova Scotia across the Northumberland Strait and the endless farm fields.

It was a pure driving photo trip experience. I was driving without any specific places to visit just trying to spot something interesting and beautiful. When I spotted this view I just stopped the car and took a couple of shots from the side of the road.

SHOOTING & PROCESSING

I took 3 bracketed shots on a tripod (-1, 0, +1) as I usually do.

I used single RAW image editing in Lightroom. I described the process in Lightroom Rapid Editing System for Landscapes.

But this time I introduced the editing twist to Rapid Editing.

First I applied Lightroom preset Drought from my Landscape Collection with the following Lightroom Preset Editing Formula: Drought (1, 8, 30 ).

Next, I created a Virtual Copy of the image and applied another preset, this time Point Lobos with the following Lightroom Preset Editing Formula: Point Lobos (9, 20, 30).

Finally, I loaded both versions to Photoshop as individual layers and blended them together using the Transparency Masks and the Brush Tool.
